Aficionados of “Jesus Christ Superstar” will able to compare three productions of the musical this month — something that hasn’t happened for decades. The Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice rock opera is being staged April 14 – May 6 at the Pentacle Theatre in Salem; April 19 – 23 at the Mago Hunt Center Theater at the University of Portland; and April 21 to May 7 at the Theatre in the Grove in Forest Grove.

The musical appeared on Broadway in the early 1970s and is loosely based on the Gospels’ accounts of Holy Week.

The Pentacle Theatre production, directed by Geri Sanders, includes cast members from St. Joseph and Queen of Peace parishes in Salem.
