On Sunday July 16, St. Peter Church in Southeast Portland welcomes the choir of Christ’s College, Cambridge, England, to perform at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 16, at the church.

The concert is free although a free will offering will be collected to help the choir with touring expenses.

Christ’s College has had a chapel choir since its foundation in 1505. David Rowland, director of music at Christ’s College, conducts the choir. They sing music from English and European choral traditions from the 16th to 20th centuries.

Choral evensong is sung twice weekly during full term at Christ’s College. The choir also makes a contribution to the life of the college, singing at feasts, weddings, memorial services and other occasions.

The group pursues activities outside the college, performing concerts in Cambridge and around the United Kingdom, recording CDs, broadcasting, and undertaking major international tours each summer. Choir members are selected by audition.
