    LAKE OSWEGO — Sister Maxine Currin (Sister M. Richard James), 95, a Holy Names Sister for 63 years, died at the Marie-Rose Center at Mary's Woods at Marylhurst July 24. Her funeral was held in the Chapel of the Holy Names.

  • MILWAUKIE — Lucille Mary Paulsohn McEntee, 88, died Sept. 2. A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Church in Milwaukie at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21.

    Benjamin Gangay Dadios, of Hillsboro, died Aug. 24. There was a funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Church, in Beaverton, with interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland.

    HILLSBORO — Missionary of the Holy Spirit Father José de Jesús Ortega Tejeda, 80, died Aug. 23 at his home and surrounded by family and his brothers. His body is lying in repose 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at St. Matthew Church. There will be a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at St. Matthew Church, and a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m., both also at St. Matthew Church. A noon reception will follow the Mass. Father Ortega’s cremated remains will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Oxnard, California, Thursday, Sept. 6, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be a Eucharist celebration at that church at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7., followed by a Rite of Christian Burial at the Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard at 12:45 p.m.
  • Fr. Scott Vandehey
     A priest who was known as a hardworking pastor and who also wrote a book about Dutch Catholics in Oregon died early Aug. 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption. Father Scott Vandehey, 78, a resident of Beaverton died at Providence St. Vincent’s in Portland, Oregon. There was a funeral Mass at Visitation Church in Verboort. Archbishop Alexander Sample presided. A rosary precedes the funeral. A graveside service at St. Francis of Assisi cemetery in Roy followed.
  • Elizabeth Gazewood
    WARRENTON — Elizabeth Gail Gazewood died peacefully at her home in Surf Pines at the age of 80 Aug. 19, with her husband and daughter present. There will be a funeral mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Our Lady of Victory Church in Seaside, where she was a parishioner. Rosary will precede the Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the church and viewing of Mrs. Gazewood will take place at 10 a.m. in the church. A reception will be held following the funeral mass in the parish hall. Following the reception, graveside services will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, south of Seaside.
  • OREGON CITY — Marjorie Rae Jackson, lifelong resident of Oregon City, died Aug. 18 following a brief illness. There will be a funeral Mass at noon, Wednesday, Aug. 29, at St. John the Apostle Church, followed by a reception and committal at Mount View Cemetery. Viewing will take place Aug 28 and Aug.29 at Holman-Hankins-Bowker & Waud Funeral Home.

    After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Deacon William “Bill” Thomas Park died peacefully in his sleep Aug. 12. There will be a funeral Mass Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Madeleine Church in Northeast Portland. The rosary will begin at 11:30 followed by the Mass at noon.

    Robert Louis (Lou) Merrick, 90, longtime Christ the King parishioner, died July 24 from heart problems after overcoming 31 years of fighting various cancers.

    Holy Names Sister Yolanda Mathenski (Sister Wilfrida Mary), 92, died July 23 at the Marie-Rose Center at Mary's Woods at Marylhurst in Lake Oswego. Her funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Aug. 9, in the Chapel of the Holy Names, Lake Oswego.

    MILWAUKIE — Patricia “Pat” Lorraine Swift Wade, 93, died after a short illness July 30. She was a longtime member of Christ the King Parish. There was a funeral Mass at St. Agatha Church in Southeast Portland.

    Ann-Mari Nordgren, 86, died July 14 after a lingering illness due to Parkinsons Disease. There was a vigil for her at St. Anne Church in Gresham and a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Chapel at Laurelhurst Village.

    Gary Stanley Brink, 72, died June 27. There will be a funeral Mass July 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Parish in Milwaukie. Interment at Willamette National Cemetery will be a 2 p.m. that same day.

    John O’Donnell, 90, a parishioner at Holy Redeemer, died peacefully May 22. Services were held at Zeller Chapel of the Roses and interment was at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

    Holy Names Sister Helen Moore (Sister M. Gertrude Anne), 93, died at the Marie-Rose Center at Mary's Woods at Marylhurst in Lake Oswego, May 22. A member of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary for 72 years, her funeral was held on June 6, in the Chapel of the Holy Names at Marylhurst followed by inurnment at Holy Names Cemetery.
  • Fr. William Ryan
    Augustinian Father William Ryan died June 19 in Ojai, California, surrounded by his community. There will be a funeral Mass in Ojai and he will be buried in the San Diego Augustinian Cemetery. Father Ryan was pastor of All Souls Parish, Myrtle Creek, and its mission, Holy Family in Glendale, from 1989 to 2017. There will be a memorial Mass at All Souls at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30.

    Richard “Dick” Rademacher, 89, died June 6 with a smile on his face. After fighting a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, he spent his last days surrounded by family and friends. There will be a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. June 30 at St. Alice Church in Springfield.

    Dorothy Irene Polashek Chvatal, 101, died peacefully May 30 at Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton, where she had lived the last two years. There will be a funeral Mass Monday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Beaverton.

    Longtime Lake Oswego resident James “Jim” Colin Vincent, 86, died surrounded by family June 4 in Wilsonville following a short illness. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 790 A. Ave., Lake Oswego. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Portland.

There will be a recitation of the rosary Monday, June 4, at 7 p.m. at Gethsemani Funeral Home, 11666 SE Stevens Rd., Happy Valley. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 5, at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 375 NE Clackamas St., Portland.

    June Juliann Clark Burke, 100, died May 6 in Portland. A funeral Mass was held at Ascension Church in Portland.

    Patricia Marcella (Sousa) Scarpino, 103, died on May 14 in her assisted living residence at Assumption Village in North Portland where she had lived for the past 14 years. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 16, at noon at Holy Cross Church, followed by a reception at Peace Lutheran Church Hall.

    Cleo Green, 79, a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, died of cancer Feb. 6. Family and friends are invited to the burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery Friday, June 8, at noon.

    Brother John Parker Lee Hopkins, 80, a Brigittine monk of the Order of the Most Holy Savior, died May 14 in Portland. Archbishop John Vlazny presided over his funeral Mass at the Brigittine Monastery in Amity.

    James Paul Hansen, of Abingdon, Virginia, died peacefully May 2, 2018, one month short of his 81st birthday. Friends gathered for an evening of prayer at Holy Trinity Church in Beaverton, singing Mr. Hansen’s setting of the service from the Office for the Dead.

    Sean Dooney died tragically in a boating accident along with his uncle, Kevin Dooney, on the Washington coast Sunday, May 6, 2018, leaving his family, friends and business colleagues shocked and heartbroken.

    ABINGDON, Virginia — James Paul Hansen, a longtime liturgist and composer for Oregon Catholic Press and former director of worship for the Archdiocese of Portland, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 2, one month short of his 81st birthday. His journey ended as it began, in the loving embrace of God. A native of Menominee, Michigan, and son of Paul Hansen and Mamie Fifarek, Jim now joins his parents and three siblings, Ruth Ann, Peter and Steven, all of whom predeceased him.

    Helen Margaret Feltz, 86, died May 3 at Mount Hood View Senior Care, where she had loving care during a long battle with Parkinson’s. There will be a funeral Mass and celebration of life on Monday, May 14, at Christ the King Church in Milwaukie, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the parish center.

    Helen (McCausland) Mulloy, 87, died April 20 at home. She will be buried May 12 from Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Vancouver, Washington.

    Father Jim Stange, 66, was found deceased in his residence at St. John Vianney on Monday evening, April 30. There will be a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, May 18, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Scappoose. The burial will follow immediately afterwards at the parish cemetery behind the church.

    STAYTON — William O’Connor, 71, died March 23. There was a funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church and he was buried with full military honors at St. Mary Cemetery.

    STAYTON — Dorine Jackson, 89, died March 26. There was a funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Stayton. Interment was at St. Mary Cemetery.

    Ivadell "Ivy" Welsh, 88, died of congestive heart failure April 15 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, with her daughter, Connie, and her granddaughter Lindsey at her side. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish in Portland, where there will be a funeral Mass at noon on Friday, May 11, preceded by a recitation of the rosary at 11:30 a.m.

    Lou Ann Dehen died March 3, surrounded by her family. There will be a funeral Mass Friday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at Ascension Church in Southeast Portland.

    Jeffrey Calvin Collier, 67, died April 11. Recitation of the rosary will be said Friday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. in St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, Baker City. Bishop Liam Cary will celebrate the funeral Mass Saturday, April 21, at 9:30 a.m. in the Cathedral. Following the Mass family and friends are invited downstairs to the parish hall for a luncheon.

    Paula Renard, 92, died March 27 in Beaverton. There was a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia Church in Beaverton. She had been a member of St. Cecilia Parish for 42 years.
  • Edward Greisen, 95, a member of St. Wenceslaus Parish in Scappoose, died March 31 in Portland. There will be a funeral Mass Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church in Scappoose. The Mass will be preceded by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.

    Bee Parisi, 105, died April 7. There will be a funeral Mass Friday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Southeast Portland. The Mass will be preceded by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to La Salle High School. Interment is at 2 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery.

    Bill Tromp, 78, a longtime resident of Lake Oswego, died in his home March 15. There will be a funeral Mass Friday, April 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church in downtown Portland. A rosary will precede the Mass at 9:30 a.m. and a reception will follow, both at the church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

    Claybourne G. Gosser, 92, a longtime member of St. Anthony Parish, Tigard, died April 8. There will be a funeral Mass Friday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Church.

    John Moore, 88, died March 26 after a sudden illness. His wife and most of his family were by his side. There was a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia Church in Beaverton.

    Joseph “Joe” R. Bianco, 92, a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral parish for 60 years, died peacefully March 19. Msgr Patrick Brennan officiated at Mr. Bianco’s graveside funeral at Mt. Cavalry Cemetery on March 27. A memorial Mass will be held April 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Cathedral, 1716 N.W. Davis St, Portland, with a celebration of life reception to follow at 12:15 at the Hotel DeLuxe, 729 SW 15th Ave., Portland. All are welcome.

    Matilda Francis (Gerkman) Herbst died March 23 in the Oregon City home that she lived in for 86 of her 92-year life. There will be a funeral Mass Tuesday, April 3, at St. John Church in Oregon City. A rosary will be offered at 11 a.m., the Mass at 11:30 a.m., a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. and final commit-ment at St. John’s Cemetery.

    Msgr. Arthur Dernbach, 91, a Portland archdiocesan priest for 65 years and revered teacher and principal at Central Catholic High School, died peacefully March 17. A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Portland.

    Adeline Viola Conry Susa, 98, died March 13 in Portland. There will be a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. March 19 at St. Luke Church in Woodburn, where she was a longtime parishioner.

    St. Mary of Oregon Sister Sharon Kirk died March 11. There was a vigil service and funeral Mass at the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon motherhouse in Beaverton. Memorial offerings may be directed to the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Retirement Fund.

There will be a rosary at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, at St. John the Apostle Church in Oregon City. The funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m., with a reception following the Mass.

    Sherri Kay Glenn Valnes of Kalama, Washington, died in Kalama Sunday, March 11, at the age of 64. A funeral Mass and reception will be held for her Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m. at St. Philip Church in Woodland, Washington.

  • Roberet Brunmeier, 89, died March 2 from complications of the flu and Parkinson’s disease. He was surrounded by his wife, Elaine, and all of his children. A funeral Mass will be held March 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Cyril Catholic Church, 9205 SW 5th St, Wilsonville, with a reception following at the church hall. There will be a military service at Willamette National Cemetery on March 28, at 10:30am. All are welcome.

    Benedictine Father Athanasius Buchholz, a monk of Mount Angel Abbey, died Feb. 22. There was a funeral Mass at the abbey, with burial in the abbey cemetery.

    Larry Richard Moyer, a member of Christ the King Parish, died Feb. 22. There will be a funeral Mass March 10 at 11 a.m., preceded by a rosary at 10:30 a.m., both at Christ the King Parish in Milwaukie.

    LYONS — Alva Ernest Brown, 85, died Feb. 10 in his home with his family by his side. A Recitation of the Rosary will take place on Friday, February 23, at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity with interment with military honors to follow. The public is welcome to attend.

    Brigittine Brother Martin (Frank) Cardenas, 58, died Feb. 6. Archbishop John Vlazny will preside over a funeral Mass at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Brigittine Monastery, 23300 SW Walker Ln., Amity. There will also be a vigil for Brother Martin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, also at the monastery.
