Harold Allen Slater, 73, died at his Portland Mount Tabor home Dec. 6 after a 13-month battle with lung cancer. There will be a funeral at 11 a.m. Dec. 20 at St. Ignatius Church in Southeast Portland, where Mr. Slater was a parishioner.

   Lifelong Portland resident, Mr. Slater was born Aug. 3, 1943, to Marion Hope and Harold D. Slater. He graduated from Benson High School and Portland State University with a degree in political science.

   He was a founding member of Portland Actors Ensemble in the 1970s.  He also started and ran his own general contractor-construction company for 35 years.

   Mr. Slater leaves behind wife Kathleen, daughter Lisa, sons Christian and Andrew, grandsons Cole and Luke, relatives, friends, and clients. 

There will be a private interment ceremony for immediate family.

There will also be a celebration of life Jan. 7 at former place of business, 2722 SE 25th Ave, Portland.
