OREGON CITY — Milwaukie resident Mary Magdalen Sonderen Thompson, 83, a member of St. John the Apostle Parish, died Dec. 19 as she struggled with complications from surgery and health issues. There will be a rosary at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. John the Apostle Church.

Mrs. Thompson was born June 10, 1933, in Oregon City. She attended Immaculata High School and graduated Magna cum laude from the University of Portland in 1956 with a degree in education.

She worked for the University of Portland as secretary to its president, Holy Cross Father Robert Sweeney. She also worked for Farmers Insurance and was a teacher in the Oregon City School District for 30 years.

She volunteered as a religious education teacher and as a substitute teacher for St. John the Apostle School and at the parish.

She was preceded in death by her siblings and Roger Thompson, her husband.

She is survived by Guy Thompson, Beth Boswell, Robert Thompson, David Thompson, Roger Thompson, her children. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
