From the Archives

A few months ago, His Excellency, Most Reverend Archbishop Howard, directed a group of the local clergy to undertake the work of outdoor “Street Preaching” in Portland. As a result this work has been and is being carried on and with very satisfactory results.

Up to the present time, these public sermons or instructions have been given out of doors in front of St. Vincent de Paul chapel, Third Ave. and Ankeny St. At this season, the “meetings” are held every Sunday afternoon at 5:00. The outside has been found most satisfactory for drawing a crowd and getting those to listen who would be unwilling to enter a building of any kind for that purpose.
