I applaud your profile on Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain of the 9th Circuit Court (Jan. 6, page 4):
I am pleased to see the word “conservative” as a description of the judge. “Conservative” does not mean “rigid” or “old-fashioned” as many like to characterize. The word designates the necessity of conserving liberty and freedom for each and every American.
Laws are written by state legislatures and Congress, not the judicial branch. Judges should not interpret or rewrite laws to fit their personal philosophy. As new social norms or issues come up, we must follow the legislative process outlined in the Constitution.
