Mark Roche, professor of German and philosophy at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, will present “What’s So Funny About a Joke?” as the annual Hesburgh Lecture at the University of Portland. The lecture will be March 23 in Franz Hall, Room 120, on the U.P. campus at 7:15 p.m.
Roche interlaces humor with an analysis of the greatness and limitations of Sigmund Freud’s theory of jokes. The free lecture is a collaboration by the Garaventa Center, the Notre Dame Club of Portland and the Beckman Humor Project.
