The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, recognizes teens in grades seven-12 for their work. This year there were 29 categories and 330,000 submissions nationwide.
Several St. Clare students submitted entries under the guidance of art teacher Marie Acurso, and four eighth-graders were recognized with regional awards.
Students’ submissions are judged by leaders in the visual and literary arts. Jurors look for works that exemplify the awards’ core values: originality, technical skill and the emergence of personal voice or vision.
Maddie Boehringer won two Gold Key awards, two Silver Key awards, three honorable mentions and was awarded a Silver Key at the national level. All of her awards were for photography.
Ella Leback won a Silver Key and an honorable mention for two of her photographs.
Lucy Quinn won a Gold Key, a Silver Key and an honorable mention, also all for photography.
Mia Sedory won a Gold Key for a digital art work and a Silver Key for a work of poetry.
