Gerard Ford

Gerard “Gerry” Glenn Ford, 86, died Dec. 31. There was a funeral Mass at St. Henry Church in Gresham.

Mr. Ford was born Oct. 26, 1930, in Portland. He served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1956 he moved to Salem and opened a branch office for Pitney Bowes. He retired from U.S. Bank in Portland in 1992. Then he moved to Gresham. Gerry was founder of Mobiliers Car Club in Portland and formed Salem's first slow-pitch softball league, serving as president. He coached for Salem Little League and was on its board of directors. He was a member of the Elks #1805 and the Knights of Columbus. At 62, he made his first parachute jump.

Mr. Ford is survived by his bride of 60 years, Phyllis; children, Janet, Karen, Greg (Candice) and David Ford; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dale and Joan. He was predeceased by his sons, Steven and Michael; sisters, Donna and Joyce; and brother, Robert.
