News has come that Franciscan Sister Frances Marie Calhoun (formerly Sister Joseph Therese) died June 29, on the 70th year of her religious profession. She was born in Klamath Falls where she was a member of Sacred Heart Parish.

Sister Frances Marie entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1947 and professed her first vows in 1950. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Marylhurst College in Portland.

Her ministry in the Portland Archdiocese includes teaching at North Catholic High School, Central Catholic High School, Blessed Sacrament School, and St. Mary’s Academy. She also served as a substitute teacher and attendance secretary at Jesuit High School and volunteered at St. John Fisher School.

Sister Frances also served as coordinator at Corbett Mansion, a retreat site and convent in Portland, and volunteered at Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton. Currently she serves in prayer and hospitality ministry at Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement residence in Aston, Pennsylvania.
