Mater Dei Radio, the Catholic station serving much of western Oregon, closed its offices to the public the afternoon of March 19 to protect staff from the coronavirus

Only essential personnel will be in the building on Sylvan Hill in Southwest Portland.

“We are developing a plan to broadcast our local programming like the Morning Blend remotely and we hope to be back on the air with that by Monday, March 30,” said Patrick Ryan, executive director of Mater Dei.

Until the local morning show is back in place, Mater Dei will air The Patrick Madrid Show 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Other programming should remain the same, Ryan said.

Only Ryan and broadcast manager Aaron Arehart will be on the premises.

“I realize that these are unprecedented and somewhat extreme measures, but the safety and health of our team is my top priority,” said Ryan.

The Archdiocese of Portland Pastoral Center also is closed to the public.
