Central Catholic High School on Dec. 1 held its annual Democracy in Action day, allowing students to meet elected leaders and other figures involved in public policy. Officials from various political parties attended and sat at tables in the gymnasium, fielding questions from the teens. Students focused on what it means to be active citizens and how to be critical consumers of information. Among the attendees was Matt Cato, director of the Archdiocese of Portland’s Office of Life, Justice and Peace. The office promotes public policy rooted in the church’s teaching on human dignity.
