SALEM — Bob Weber has returned to Blanchet Catholic School as president/principal. He served at Blanchet before his seven years as president of Valley Catholic. Also returning to Blanchet this school year is Chuck Lee, who will take on the role of president emeritus and help with the development efforts.

Other new faces on the Cavalier team include Rachel Polzer, who joins the staff as a member of the University of Portland’s PACE program. She will teach high school English.

Former teacher Harry Ahn returns to teach high school Math.

Eileen Virden is back as well to teach high school AP English, oversee a future business leaders program, run the Cav Store and work with development office staff.

Corina Moore joins the teaching staff and will teach mid-high math and English. Moore is a former Blanchet teacher and campus minister.

The music program welcomes three new teachers. Kandi West has more than a decade of experience working in the Salem-Keizer School District. She will head Blanchet’s choir, work with sixth-graders and lead music for school liturgies. Sarah Zielinski will teach the orchestra and says she hopes to build it up. Riker Kasamoto will teach band and junior and senior social studies as well as coaching mid-high volleyball.

This summer, workers were busy with campus improvements. They installed a new air-conditioning unit in the main gym and resurfaced and painted driveways and parking areas. Roofers spruced up the roofs and locksmiths added a security card swipe entry system.

Blanchet students will continue to bring their own digital devices.
