MILWAUKIE — More than 60 people reenacted Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem during a Christmas Posada at La Salle Prep Dec. 7.

During the Posada, several La Salle students, parents, staff, and community members walked the halls of the school as if they were Joseph and Mary seeking shelter for their baby to be born. After they were finally welcomed in by those playing the part of the innkeeper, everyone feasted at a potluck, and broke open a piñata.

Counselor Maritza Mendez said she and registrar Liz Staggs coordinated the event to share the Advent tradition – popular in Mexico – with the school community.

“For students and families who grew up with Posadas, bringing traditions like these into La Salle allows us to build community as we celebrate them together," she said. "For students and families new to Posadas, this is a wonderful way to participate in a tradition many of their classmates celebrate."
