St. Clare School in Southwest Portland is starting the year with a sense of renewal and reinvigoration. Three new teachers are on staff and the old gymnasium is due for renovation.

Paige Sturges moved to Portland from Pomona, California, where she taught high school English at a public charter school and was selected by the student body as the “Teacher with the Biggest Heart.”

Angela Romanaggi is the new third-grade teacher. She will draw on experience as a primary teacher and as a school district STEM specialist.

Jessica Montgomery joins the team as a second-grade teacher. She has been a member of St. Clare Parish for many years and for several years worked with people with disabilities and as an instructional assistant.

Over the summer, the gym floors got a full refinishing, down to the boards. The floor soon will be joined by freshly painted walls, new scoreboards, rejuvenated wall pads and new side hoops. Students, along with the almost 5,000 students from other schools who use the gym throughout the season, will be greeted by a new logo at center-court.
