MEDFORD — St. Mary School here was presented with the 2016-2017 3A Oregonian Cup Oct. 6.

This is the second year and the seventh time in a decade that the school has received the award.

The Oregonian Cup, an award of the Oregon School Activities Association, was created to recognize schools in each classification for excellence in athletics, academics, activities and sportsmanship.

This year, the award for St. Mary School was given after a culmination of points was earned by the school through athletics and academic achievement.

Not only did the school’s girls golf team and the baseball team win state championships, but the football team also reached its first state playoff in 22 years. Another 10 Crusader teams made it to state playoffs and finished with high placements in both team and individual sports. Ten teams finished seasons in the top 5 for 3A in the Academic All-State standings. Football, volleyball, boys tennis, and girls track and field each earned top team GPAs in the 3A classification.

Proving sportsmanship, St. Mary’s finished the year with no ejections in any sport, earning the school even more points toward the Oregonian Cup.
