SPOKANE — The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary at the Spokane Mission Centre celebrated a 75th jubilee Sept. 12. The honoree was Sister Miriam Pontieri, who has Oregon connections.

A virtual Mass was held at South Hill Village in Spokane with retired Bishop William Skylstad as presider.

Sister Miriam made first vows in 1945. Loyal to the Holy Names purpose “to collaborate with the church’s mission of education, particularly education in the faith,” Sister Miriam dedicated her years in ministry to classroom teaching and retreat work.

Her teaching career spanned classrooms at Holy Names Academy in Seattle, Fort Wright College in Spokane, St. Mary’s Academy in Medford, St. Mary’s Academy in Portland, Marylhurst College in Lake Oswego and Holy Names College in Oakland.
