MOUNT ANGEL — Benedictine Sister Judith Henigin was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on April 18, 1940, growing up in a large family. She lived her first five years in Pennsylvania, moved to California, then to Oregon.

She began high school in Portland and continued at Mount Angel Academy. She entered Queen of Angels Monastery and made her profession on July 11, 1960. She then attended Mount Angel College and received her teaching credentials in 1964.

Sister Judith taught in local Catholic grade schools for eight years then attended Montessori Institute of Los Angeles, receiving certification in 1980.

She worked in Montessori schools in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, for five years then continued in this field in Lake Oswego and Portland.

When Sister Judith retired in 2003 she served in various tasks in the monastery in Mount Angel. Because of health issues she now resides next door in Providence Benedictine Nursing Center.
