MOUNT ANGEL — Benedictine Sister Donna Marie Chartraw was born in Lebanon, Oregon, in 1941 and raised in Albany where she attended grade school at St. Mary’s Academy, later called St. Mary’s School.

For high school she attended Mount Angel Academy and entered the Benedictine Sisters’ monastery shortly after graduating in 1958. She made her monastic profession as a Benedictine Sister on July 11, 1960. She then earned her bachelor’s degree from Mount Angel College and a master’s degree in education from the University of Oregon in 1970.

She taught in Catholic grade schools in Lebanon, Shaw, Silverton, Portland, and Oregon City and served as principal several years. Most of her teaching career was spent in her home town at St. Mary’s in Albany, where she taught first grade 1975-2001.

Sister Donna Marie then served Queen of Angels Monastery as liturgical music leader and was elected prioress for the terms 2007-2015. She continues now as assistant to the administrator and continues in liturgical music ministry for the community.
