The Archdiocese of Portland’s annual All Souls Mass will be online this year.

Ordinarily held at both Portland area Catholic cemeteries, the liturgies will be combined into one to be livestreamed from Portland’s St. Mary Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.

Gatherings at the cemeteries are being avoided during the pandemic.

Attendance at the cathedral is discouraged, cemetery officials say. The hope is that people will participate online.

The livestream link will be on the Archdiocese of Portland Facebook page and the cemeteries’ website, ccpdxor.com.

During the feast of All Souls Mass, the church remembers all who have died, especially in the past year.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops offer this prayer for the dead, which is appropriate for All Souls Day:

In your hands, O Lord,

we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters.

In this life you embraced them with your tender love;

deliver them now from every evil

and bid them eternal rest.

The old order has passed away:

welcome them into paradise,

where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,

but fullness of peace and joy

with your Son and the Holy Spirit

forever and ever.

Amen.
