GOLD HILL — The Knights of Columbus from Grants Pass have made a donation of $1,000 to St. Rita Retreat Center in nearby Gold Hill. The Knights sell firewood to raise money for their charities, which include veterans, pro-life causes, youth activities and community building.

The retreat center has donated trees from the 63-acre property to the Knights for the last five years. Between July 2020 and June 2021, the Knights raised $5,700 from firewood sales. The previous 12 months had seen $3,525 raised.

The past year’s sales more than made up for the suspension of the Knights’ primary fundraiser, pancake breakfasts, which were postponed because of COVID-19.

Thirteen members of Council #3157 took part in firewood operations, which include cutting, splitting, and delivery to many new and repeat customers. The Knights are gearing up for another firewood season in 2021-22.
