Parishioners from the Northeast Vicariate and elsewhere in the archdiocese will set off on a pilgrimage to enter the Holy Doors at the Grotto on Sunday, Aug. 7. Parishioners from St. Rose Church will walk with Fr. Matt Libra, and welcome others to join them.

They’ll meet at 3 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima (2727 NE 54th Ave, Portland). Parking is available at St. Rose and across the street at Our Lady of Lavang. The group will then walk to the Grotto (about two miles, at 8840 NE Skidmore St.). Those who cannot walk will drive to the Grotto and meet the walkers there at about 4 p.m. City buses (leaving every 20 minutes) will provide transportation from the Grotto back to St. Rose following the program.

At the Grotto, pilgrims will enter through the Doors of Mercy as they seek forgiveness for their sins; participate in personal reconciliation (many priests will be on hand); enjoy a special concert by singer, composer and pianist Amanda Vernon; and finish with an evening prayer service led by Bishop Peter Smith.

Participants are urged to wear comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Water will be provided along the way, and there will also be drinks, chips and cookies for participants at the Grotto. Those bringing sandwiches can make their picnic dinner complete.
