ST. BENEDICT — Mount Angel Abbey, while not yet open for public Mass, has welcomed visitors throughout the summer to enjoy the hilltop grounds, soak in the quiet beautiful views or pray privately in the church, which is open during the day.

Two popular summer events that typically draw hundreds of people to the abbey in July — the Saint Benedict Festival and the Abbey Bach Festival — were virtual events this year. Though the experience was not the same as the in-person events, both virtual festivals had large audiences online. The Saint Benedict Festival can be replayed on the abbey’s website at mountangelabbey.org/sbf. The monastic community took advantage of the virtual opportunity to film life inside the cloister and show parts of their daily monastic routine not typically seen by those outside the community.

In keeping with state and county guidelines, the abbey’s bookstore has re-opened for limited hours during the week. Face coverings are required. For hours, visit mountangelabbey.org or call 503-845-3030.
