Portland’s Wholistic Peace Institute is organizing the talk.

In the document, Pope Francis states that the COVID-19 pandemic has proven the failure of the world to work together. The encyclical calls for more human fraternity and solidarity, and is a plea to reject wars.

The document was signed on Oct. 3 on the occasion of Pope Francis's visit to the tomb of his namesake, Saint Francis of Assisi, and was published the following day, the saint's feast day.

Brother Cyril grew up in the Pacific Northwest then discovered his vocation while serving in the Peace Corps in Liberia, West Africa. Since 1985 he has been a Benedictine monk of Mount Angel Abbey and has earned master’s degrees in theology, history and divinity. His teaching has ranged from high school to college and some graduate school, in six academic disciplines.
