Catholics in western Oregon will have a chance to further evangelization and help mission dioceses worldwide the weekend of Oct. 23. On World Mission Sunday, Pope Francis invites the entire church to support mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the world’s most vulnerable communities.

Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday in 1926 for the whole church as a feast of catholicity and universal solidarity so Christians the world over will recognize their common responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world.
