Sister Colleen Schmitt gave the coveted Golden Ladle to the cooking crew from the Beaverton Police, winners of the People’s Choice Award in this year’s Soup’s On Benefit. The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon again welcomed Washington County for dinner.
The sisters decked out the gym at Valley Catholic High for 300 guests Oct. 1 and more than 20 chefs who brought their soup to try out on the crowd. The officers cooked up a pot of savory Mexican stew. Proceeds, which have added up to $65,000 in the course of three years, go to Sunshine Pantry.
