Partnering with a Knights of Columbus Supreme Council match program, the Oregon Knights gave more than 1,200 coats for Oregon children this winter.

The Knights chose three locations statewide for coat distributions — Portland, Wilsonville and Mount Angel. Local Knights gave the coats the day after Thanksgiving.

“Distributions were made in low-income areas,” said Duane Morris, general program director for the Oregon Knights of Columbus.

Franciscan Sister Connie Furseth of St. Mary Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception will organize coat donations within the Portland Public Schools Teen Parent Program, Catholic Charities and Northwest Catholic Counseling.

The Coats for Kids Program is part of the Faith in Action goals of the Knights of Columbus. The nationwide effort aims to make sure no child goes without a warm coat this winter.
