Jeremy Christian, the man known for murdering two men on a Portland MAX train in 2017, was sentenced June 24 to life in prison with no possibility of ever being freed.

One of the stabbing victims was Rick Best, a member of Christ the King Parish in Milwaukie.

In the days leading up to Christian’s sentencing, more than a dozen victims and their families gave statements before Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Albrecht. Shortly into the first statement, Christian stood up and shouted at the witness that he wished he’d killed her too. He wasn’t allowed back in the courtroom after the outburst. Christian was given a life sentence for each of the men he killed, plus 25 additional years for his other crimes — attempted murder, assault and committing hate crimes.
