Following a revelation that he’d been involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with an adult woman, Father Jonah Lynch resigned just before Christmas as administrator of St. Jude Parish in Eugene. The priest admitted to the behavior before returning to his religious community, the Priestly Fraternity of the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo.

The woman was not a member of the parish.

Parishioners heard the announcement at Masses Dec. 21-22 in a letter from Archbishop Alexander Sample.

“I have removed Father Lynch from all public ministry in this archdiocese,” the archbishop wrote.

Father Pat McNamee, who is retired, is now administrator of St. Jude.

The Jan. 3 issue of the Catholic Sentinel included a profile of Father Lynch that was written in September and printed before the newspaper’s staff received news of the resignation and dismissal.
