Oregon’s 2020 Roe v. Wade memorial and march will mark 50 years since abortion became legal in the state. The rally and march have been held in Portland for almost a decade but for 2020 returns to the Oregon Capitol in Salem on Jan. 25. That’s where lawmakers passed Senate Bill 193 in 1969, making Oregon one of the first states to allow abortions.

The next year, a handful of advocates banded together and started Oregon Right to Life.

“We've been working in this building for 50 years and will continue as long as it takes to end legal abortion,” said a statement from the Salem-based organization.

Featured speaker for the day is Karen Gaffney, an advocate for life, including people with disabilities. A graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Portland, Gaffney has Down syndrome. She has had a career as a long distance swimmer and speaker.
