Providence has opened the Center for Weight Management, with a multidisciplinary approach offering patients non-surgical and surgical weight loss programs.

The medical weight loss program offers a plan based on individual goals, health history and eating habits. It includes resources such as coaching and fitness evaluations.

The surgical weight loss plan begins with pre-surgery education and nutritional programs. A team provides support for patients during and after surgery.

The center suggests bariatric surgery may be right for patients with a body mass index of at least 40, or for patients with a BMI of 35 or greater with significant weight-related medical problems such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, gastroesophageal reflux disease and asthma.

The medical weight management program is open to all patients with a BMI of 25 or more.

The center has clinics at Providence Portland and Providence St. Vincent medical centers.
