Blanchet House of Hospitality in Old Town Portland is requiring on-site volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have worked hard to deliver aid to people in need while keeping everyone in our community — residents, meal guests, volunteers, and staff — safe and healthy,” said a note to volunteers from Scott Kerman, executive director of Blanchet House, which serves food, houses men in recovery from addiction and assists in job searches. “Many of the people we serve have chronic medical conditions for which COVID could be very serious, even deadly.”

The vaccine requirement went into effect Sept. 1.

Proof of vaccination is not required from off-site volunteers, such as those who donate sack lunches, care kits, baked goods or clothing.
