NEWBERG — Organizers of a youth conference set for St. Peter Parish in Newberg were seeing something they didn't like. Their children were immersed in a society dominated by sex and parties and media in opposition to the Catholic way of life.

Parents from St. Peter, San Martin de Porres Church in Dayton and St. John in Yamhill wanted youths to get thinking about good life and faith decisions. That's why they asked Deacon Harold Burke Sivers to speak at a conference set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18.

Burke Sivers speaks on marriage, chastity, life choices, men and women respecting one another and treasuring Gods gift of life and lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down. On Feb. 18, he'll sound the theme, “A Pure Heart Create for Me.”

"We are Catholic because what the Church teaches is true, good, and beautiful, particularly in regard to human sexuality, marriage, and family life," Burke Sivers says.

The day begins with Mass, includes a Mexican lunch and concludes with the sacrament of reconciliation.
