EUGENE - The Knights of Columbus in Eugene are using the media to spread their pro-life message.

Gayle Atteberry, executive director of Oregon Right to Life, will be the guest speaker at a dinner at St. Mary Parish here on Saturday, Sept. 28, 7 p.m. The Knights of Columbus Eugene Council #1430 are sponsoring the fund-raising event, which will include guest speakers, music, a raffle, information on pro-life topics, and a dinner.

The proceeds will be used for pro-life advertising primarily on Eugene-area radio stations.

The pro-life radio advertising will have a three-pronged goal: service, education, and political advocacy.

The campaign will inform listeners of the services available at 1st Way Crisis Pregnancy Center. It will begin with 20 educational spots provided by Oregon Right to Life. The focus is to inform the public about the consequences of abortion to the baby, the mother, the father, and society.

The ads also will inform the public about pro-life candidates and issues.

Earlier in the summer, the Knights of Columbus joined with the St. Mary Parish RCIA class, O'Hara Catholic School eighth-graders and the Catholics for Life group to pay for pro-life messages on three Lane Transit District buses.

The bus-side message, which ran for more than three months, said: 'Smile. Your Mom Chose Life.'

The Knights of Columbus Council # 1430 has established a pro-life committee to ensure the continuation of their commitment.
