  • Vlasta Ravlic-Stach
    Vlasta Angela Ravlic-Stach died peacefully in her sleep at her family home of 65 years. Vlasta was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to John and Angelina Ravlic, who were Croatian immigrants. Upon the death of her father, toddler Vlasta and infant sister Nada moved with their mom to Salmon, Idaho, to join Grandmother Antonia, Uncle John and Aunt Catherine on the family farm.
  • Funeral Mass for Vera and Deacon Vern Korchinski
    Deacon Vern Korchinski, 86, died Oct. 20, nine months after his wife, Vera, 89, died Jan. 29. The two had been married 56 years at the time of her death. There will be a funeral Mass Thursday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Preceding Mass, at 12:30 p.m., will be a rosary.

    Gerard J. Barnes, 65, passed away peacefully Oct. 14. A rosary will be held Thursday, Nov. 4, at 11:15 a.m. with a funeral Mass at 12 p.m. at St Ignatius Church in Southeast Portland. Interment will be at Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery following the funeral Mass, after which a reception will be held at the Aerie at Eagles Landing Golf course in Happy Valley.

    ASTON, Penn. — Franciscan Sister Mary Carmel Molloy (formerly Sister Carmelette), 81, died in Assisi House Oct. 11, 2021. Services will be held in Assisi House Oct. 19.

    MOUNT ANGEL — Laura Davidson Gooley, 92, passed away peacefully on Oct. 1, in her sleep at the Mount Angel Towers where she had resided for many years.

    Holy Names Sister Rita Carey, 71, died Oct. 1, in Salem. There will be a Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, at Queen of Peace Church, Salem.

    SALEM — Chuck Lee, 72, longtime principal of Blanchet School and a founder of the Salem-Keizer School District’s Career and Technical Education Center, died at home from complications of multiple system atrophy Sept. 4, surrounded by family.
  • Franciscan Sr. Kathleen Carroll
    ASTON, Penn.—Franciscan Sister Kathleen Veronica Carroll (formerly Sister Mary St. Hubert), 93, died in Assisi House Sept. 23. There was a funeral Mass at Assisi House. Burial is in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston.
  • Robert (Bob) Edward Dorney
    Bob Dorney, 90, died Monday, Aug. 30, amongst his loving family in Gresham. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, at St. Agatha Church in Southeast Portland. Interment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery.

    Elizabeth Ann Schmitt Cebula was born to Eugene Schmitt and Josephine Nadeau Schmitt. She grew up in Northeast Portland and attended The Madeleine, Holy Child Academy and Marylhurst College where she earned her education degree. She pursued her passion and taught in the Portland Public Schools.

    CENTRAL POINT — Leon Stupfel, 75, peacefully passed away at his residence in Central Point Aug. 11. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, father, papa, uncle and friend.

    Eugene (Gene) Edward Feltz was born in Portland Oct. 29, 1927, to parents Emil and Anna Feltz. He attended Sacred Heart grade school in southeast Portland and Columbia Prep High School in North Portland.

    BEAVERTON — Sister Barbara Jean Laughlin, 85, died July 24 at the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon motherhouse.
  • Sr. Ann Pizelo, SNJM
    LAKE OSWEGO — Holy Names Sister Ann Pizelo died July 7 at Mary’s Woods at Marylhurst. The daughter of Philip and Ann Frye (Ferraro) Pizelo, Ann was born in Spokane into a warm Italian family in the back of the grocery store her father owned. After her graduation from Holy Names Academy in 1955, she entered the Sisters of the Holy Names at Marylhurst, receiving the religious name Sister Angelo Marie.

    Holy Names Sister Kathleen "Kate" Buzard, 88, died June 17 in Lake Oswego. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later.

    Michael Henry Haener was born in Portland, Oregon, Jan. 8, 1949, to Delbert and Madelene Haener, who both preceded him in death. He attended St. Luke Catholic grade school in Woodburn, Kennedy High School in Mount Angel, Mount Angel Col-lege and Portland Community College.

    Jerrold Wright Ross died at his home in Kalama, Washington, June 1. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of Guadalupe Church in Ridgefield, Washington, June 9 at 11 a.m.
  • Priest who served in Albany dies at 49
    A Kenyan priest who served at Immaculate Heart Parish in Portland and St. Mary Parish in Albany from 2015 to 2020 died May 20 of COVID-19, a year after he had returned to serve in his country temporarily.
  • Priest who bridged heritage gap dies at 72
    Father Victor Perez Delgado, a parish priest and prison minister in western Oregon, died after a long illness Feb. 4 in the Archdiocese of San Luis Potosi in Mexico. Known for being a liaison between English- and Spanish-speaking Catholics, he was 72.
  • Iris Margaret Carty
    Iris Carty died at home Jan. 26. She was born and grew up in St. Johns, now North Portland. Her mother, Mary Louanna Joyce, ran the White House hotel and Iris and her sister, Gladys, grew up there, attending Assumption Grade School and helping their mother after their father died. She attended Immaculata Academy and loved to play piano — especially popular tunes — by ear.
