    BEAVERTON — Sister Barbara Jean Laughlin, 85, died July 24 at the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon motherhouse.
  • Sr. Ann Pizelo, SNJM
    LAKE OSWEGO — Holy Names Sister Ann Pizelo died July 7 at Mary’s Woods at Marylhurst. The daughter of Philip and Ann Frye (Ferraro) Pizelo, Ann was born in Spokane into a warm Italian family in the back of the grocery store her father owned. After her graduation from Holy Names Academy in 1955, she entered the Sisters of the Holy Names at Marylhurst, receiving the religious name Sister Angelo Marie.

    Holy Names Sister Kathleen "Kate" Buzard, 88, died June 17 in Lake Oswego. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later.

    Michael Henry Haener was born in Portland, Oregon, Jan. 8, 1949, to Delbert and Madelene Haener, who both preceded him in death. He attended St. Luke Catholic grade school in Woodburn, Kennedy High School in Mount Angel, Mount Angel Col-lege and Portland Community College.

    Jerrold Wright Ross died at his home in Kalama, Washington, June 1. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of Guadalupe Church in Ridgefield, Washington, June 9 at 11 a.m.
  • Priest who served in Albany dies at 49
    A Kenyan priest who served at Immaculate Heart Parish in Portland and St. Mary Parish in Albany from 2015 to 2020 died May 20 of COVID-19, a year after he had returned to serve in his country temporarily.
  • Priest who bridged heritage gap dies at 72
    Father Victor Perez Delgado, a parish priest and prison minister in western Oregon, died after a long illness Feb. 4 in the Archdiocese of San Luis Potosi in Mexico. Known for being a liaison between English- and Spanish-speaking Catholics, he was 72.
  • Iris Margaret Carty
    Iris Carty died at home Jan. 26. She was born and grew up in St. Johns, now North Portland. Her mother, Mary Louanna Joyce, ran the White House hotel and Iris and her sister, Gladys, grew up there, attending Assumption Grade School and helping their mother after their father died. She attended Immaculata Academy and loved to play piano — especially popular tunes — by ear.

    John J. Hortsch, 84, died Monday, April 26 in Salem.
  • Edward Leslie Fitzgibbon
    Edward Leslie Fitzgibbon, 94, passed away April 24 of natural causes, in his home, surrounded by those who loved him. A rosary will be held at St. John Fisher Church in Southwest Portland at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, followed by a funeral Mass at 1 p.m.

    Jerode Majella Dean, 84, passed away April 8 surrounded by family.
  • Sr. Mary Immaculate Bunty, SR
    Sister of Reparation Mary Immaculate Bunty, 91, died Tuesday, May 4. There will be a funeral Mass Wednesday, May 12, at St. Mary Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Northwest Portland at 1 p.m. Archbishop Alexander Sample will preside over the service, which will be live streamed from the Cathedral's website. Sister Mary Immaculate will be brought to the Sisters of Reparation Motherhouse in Southeast Portland Tuesday, May 11.

    John Albert DeBenedetti, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 29.

    Holy Names Sister Carol Bird, 88, died April 15 in Portland. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later.

    Joe Michael Boitano, 78, passed away peacefully April 9 at Adventist Hospital in Portland. A funeral Mass was held at St. Peter Catholic Church.
  • Janet Barta
    Janet was born Bernis Francis Repanich in Seattle in 1930 to Jack and Yerka Repanich. She grew up with her brother, Sam, and sister, Josie. She attended Holy Angels Academy where she was named salutatorian.
  • Cathy Alexander
    On April 9, God peacefully called Mary C. (Cathy) Alexander, 73, home to heaven. She had been holding the hand of her beloved, devoted husband of over 50 years, LJ (Butch) Alexander when she died.

    Millie Dover died March 29. The funeral was at St. Clare Church.

    Mary Ann Imblum, a member of St. Luke Parish in Woodburn, died March 29.
  • Sr. Mary Joyce Barsotti, SSMO
    Sister of St. Mary of Oregon Mary Joyce Barsotti died April 12 at the motherhouse convent. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 15, and a funeral Mass 4 p.m. Friday, April 16, both at the motherhouse chapel in Beaverton. Her services are accessible by livestream: https://vimeo.com/536029622 (Password: SSMO) Interment is Monday, April 19, at 9:30 a.m. at the sisters’ cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to join the SSMO community at the cemetery.
