    Norma Mae Panowicz died peacefully of natural causes Aug. 23, a month after her 94th birthday. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at St. Rita Church, 10029 NE Prescott St., Portland. The funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at St. Rita Church.

    OREGON CITY — Martin (Marty) Clyde Abelsen, 72, passed peacefully the morning of August 30, 2019, at his home in Oregon City, surrounded by his wife and three daughters, after a courageous battle with Lewy body dementia. A rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at St. John the Apostle Church (417 Washington St, Oregon City), with a funeral Mass at 11:30 am, followed by a reception at the parish.

    LAKE OSWEGO — Holy Names Sister Jane Lewis, 93, died July 29 at Mary’s Woods at Maryhurst. There was a funeral Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Names, Marylhurst, followed by burial in the Sisters’ cemetery.

    Marilyn Clare Zenner Prince, 79, died Aug. 12 after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in June. Funeral Masses will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Oroville, Washington; Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. James Cathedral in Seattle; and Thursday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. at All Saints Church in Portland. Msgr. Tim Murphy will celebrate the Mass at All Saints. A reception at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland will follow the funeral service at All Saints.

  • OREGON CITY — Evelyn Hogland, 95, a member of St. John the Apostle Parish here, died June 28. There will be a funeral Mass at St. John the Apostle at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.

    Richard Carvell Hedlund, 90, died July 11. There will be a funeral Mass at 11 a.m., Friday, July 26, at St. Mary Cathedral in Portland.

    NOTRE DAME, Indiana — Holy Cross Father Claude Pomerleau., 80, died of cancer early morning Sunday, July 21. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, at Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, Ind., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame campus on Friday, July 26, at 9:30 a.m. 

    The regular 12:05 p.m. Mass at the Chapel of Christ the Teacher at the University of Portland on Tuesday, July 23, was offered for Father Claude's eternal rest. After classes resume, when more faculty, students, and staff can participate, a larger memorial Mass will be celebrated in gratitude for the presence and ministry of Father Claude.

  • Joan Renee Mitchell-Arnold, 78, died June 29 in Portland after a long battle with multiple illnesses and cancer. There will be a funeral Mass at Christ the King Church. The time and date will be announced in the future.

    James “Jim” Hubler, 75, died in his home July 10. There was a funeral Mass at The Madeleine Church. 
  • Lorraine Eaton, 95, died June 19. There will be a funeral Mass Thursday, Aug. 1, at 12 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Milwaukie. 
  • Carol Eberdt, 83, died July 3. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church Saturday, July 20, at 1:30 pm.

    Joseph Fredrick Gooley, 96, died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family, June 26. There was a funeral Mass at St. John Fisher Church in Southwest Portland.

    Elisabeth Ann Kiefer-Wimsatt, 89, made her exit from this earthly life July 5. There will be a funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Church in Beaverton at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland.

    LAKE OSWEGO — Dr. Russell Sacco, 83, a longtime member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish, died June 4 in the Memory Unit at the Pearl on Carmen Drive with his wife at his side. There will be a funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m.

    Sally Goold Delegato, 86, died June 8. There will be a rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19, at Sacred Heart Church in Southeast Portland.

    Diane Pearl Ruffin Seifert died June 20 after a long, hard fought battle against metastatic melanoma. A Catholic memorial service will be held at Holman-Hankins Funeral home in Oregon City on Tuesday, July 2, at 2 p.m. Wear your tropical attire to honor her love for the sun, surf and sand.

    Erma Frances Hanset died June 13 in Happy Valley. There will be a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Milwaukie on Friday, June 28. Afterwards a reception will be held in the church hall, refreshments will be provided.

    ASTON, PA — Franciscan Sister Marie Inez Gonzales, 85, died in the Franciscan Sisters’ Assisi House on Wednesday, June 19. There was a funeral Mass there.

    Jack Henry Weemhoff died at a care facility in Portland May 5. There was a memorial Mass at Holy Family Church in Southeast Portland. 
  • Carl Patrick Murphy
    Carl Patrick Murphy, 98, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many, died in his sleep June 11. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at St. Pius X Church in Portland, 1280 NW Saltzman Road. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. The recitation of the rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. A reception celebrating Carl’s wonderful life will follow the Mass in the community hall adjacent to the church.     LAKE OSWEGO — Sister Helen Gates, 96, died at Marie-Rose Center at Mary's Woods at Marylhurst May 20. A member of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary for 74 years, her funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 6, in the Chapel of the Holy Names.
  • Fr. Ted Weber
    Father Ted Weber, longtime pastor and teacher in the Archdiocese of Portland, died May 31 at age 89. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Christ the King Parish Milwaukie. Interment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery on Monday, June 10.

    PENDLETON — Franciscan Sister Marie Monica Borden, 84, died in her home in Pendleton May 22. The rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel. A memorial Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, at St. Mary Catholic Church with burial to follow at Olney Cemetery.

    Lucille Claire Carich, 86, died Feb. 16 at Willamette View retirement Community. Her daughter Diane was by her side. There was a funeral Mass at St. Rose Church.
  • William Sheridan
    William “Bill” Joseph Sheridan Sr., 81, died May 9 surrounded by his loving family. There was a funeral Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church. 
    Mr. Sheridan was born in Portland Oct. 26, 1937, to Lucille and Thomas Sheridan.

    Laura Conti Digregorio, 92, of Portland died May 18. There will be a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at St. Clare Church in Southwest Portland.

    Marian McDonald, 88, died peacefully May 15 with family members at her side. Her rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, at St. Patrick Church in Madras, and the celebration of her Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, May 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick.

    Sister Barbara Alexis Melancon, age 91, a Sister of Providence for 68 years, died April 25 at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle. There was a funeral Mass at the residence. 
  • Dwight Hagen
    LAKE OSWEGO — Dwight George Hagen, 72, died April 279 at OHSU from complications from a brain injury. There will be a funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m. followed by a reception, and then the family will proceed by motorcade to Willamette National Cemetery where Mr. Hagen will be laid to rest with full military honors.

    SCRANTON, Penn. — Sister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Michel Keenan died May 1 at Our Lady of Peace Residence. There was a funeral at the IHM center here.

    BEAVERTON — Gloria Ann Lach died Dec. 8. There will be a celebration of life at Holy Trinity Church Saturday, May 25, as part of the 5:30 p.m. Mass.

    Annamarie Van Hoomissen Turner McIllece, 91, died April 22 in the West Portland home that she and her husband built. There was a funeral Mass at St. Thomas More Church.

    LAKE OSWEGO — Sister Carolyn Jane Lord, 84, died at the Marie-Rose Center at Mary's Woods at Marylhurst April 15. A member of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary for 64 years, her funeral was held in the Chapel of the Holy Names.

    Father Robert Krueger, 90, known as a caring pastor and an advocate for workers, died April 28. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, both at St. Andrew Church in Northeast Portland. A reception will follow the Mass.

    MOUNT ANGEL — Dale Francis Kloucek, 88, died April 20. A rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at St. Mary Church in Mount Angel. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m.

    Laura Ann Krahn died peacefully at home April 22, her 60th birthday, after battling an aggressive form of cancer for two years. A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at St. Philip Neri Church, Southeast Portland.

    Eleanor Margaret “Babe” Killorin Osborn, 86, died March 11 in Portland. There will be a funeral Mass Saturday, May 11, at St. Clare Church in Southwest Portland. The recitation of the Divine Mercy chaplet will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.

  • Barbara Elizabeth Thimsen, 90, died March 20 in Boise, Idaho, of a heart attack. In Portland, she had been a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. There was not a funeral service.

    FOREST GROVE — Charles "Charlie" Reece Anderson, 84, a longtime past resident of Deer Island, passed away on March 27, 2019 at OHSU Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro from kidney cancer. Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 1 p.m. will precede the funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at St. Anthony of Padua Church. A reception will follow in the church hall. 
  • LAKE OSWEGO — Angela Mae Guerra Jones, 84, died April 2 from complications of leukemia. There was a funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church.
  • Joan Downing, 90, died in her sleep March 15 due to pneumonia and complications of Alzheimer's disease. There was a funeral Mass at St. Clare Church.
  • Frances Marie Chambers
    Frances Marie Keller Chambers, 99, a resident of the Courtyard at Mount Tabor, died March 26. There will be a funeral Mass at Ascension Church in Southeast Portland at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 16. A reception with light refreshments will follow the interment at 4 p.m. in the parish hall.

    John Weston, 81, of San Francisco, died April 1. There will be a celebration of life and Mass in Portland for his old-time Portland acquaintances at the Central Catholic High School Chapel, 2401 SE Stark St., Portland, on Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m.
  • Mary Fidelma Kennedy Loughran
    Mary Fidelma Kennedy Loughran, 90, of Portland, passed gently from this life in the wee hours of the morning Thursday, April 4, 2019. She received her final few weeks of care at Maryville surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren with visits from the Sisters; music and song from her grandchildren; and ministered to by “Her Deacon,” her youngest son, Dermot from Fairport, New York. There will be a vigil Wednesday, April 10, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pegg Paxon Springer Funeral Home, 4675 SW Watson, Beaverton. All are invited to stop by and pray with the family by Mary’s side, meet and greet family members, sing a song and share a story. There will be a rosary prayed before the funeral Mass on Thursday April 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church, 5105 SW Franklin Ave, Beaverton. The funeral Mass begins at 11 a.m. The funeral procession departs to Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 333 SW Skyline Blvd. Portland. At 1 p.m. there will be hospitality and a reception at St. Cecilia’s parish hall.

    Sister of St. Mary of Oregon Mary Alberta Schwall, 94, died April 1. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Motherhouse Chapel, and a funeral Mass at 4 p.m. Monday, April 8, also at the chapel.

    Sister Mary Margaret Kelly, 90, a Sister of Providence for 64 years, died February 24, at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle. There was a funeral Mass at the residence.

    MILWAUKIE — William “Bill” McGreal Keller, 93, died peacefully March 19 at his home. The recitation of the rosary will be at St. Agatha Church Monday, March 25, at 7 p.m. There will be a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at St. Agatha.

    Linda Kay Lindley died peacefully March 4, after a long and hard fight with lung cancer and its many complications. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Clare Church in Southwest Portland. A reception will follow at the Old Barn, 9656 SW Barbur Blvd., Portland from noon until 2 p.m.

    LAKE OSWEGO — Sister Virginia Schroeder, 74, died at the Marie-Rose Center at Mary's Woods at Marylhurst, March 19. She was a member of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary for 53 years. There will be a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28 in the Chapel of the Holy Names.

    Robert Daniel Simmons, M.D., died Dec. 17, 2018 after a long battle with prostate cancer. His wife and daughters were with him.

    ALOHA — Mary Margaret Gorman, 70, died at home Tuesday, Feb. 19, from cancer. She was comforted in her final hours by the care of her daughters, Nicole Spiegel and Lisa Morris, and the visits of many close friends and family members. She was a Holy Cross parishioner.

    BEAVERTON — Sister of St. Mary of Oregon Noreen (aka Sr. George Ellen) Orazio died March 17. There will be a vigil service Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. at the Sisters of St. Mary Motherhouse Chapel. The funeral Mass will be Thursday, March 21, at 4 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel.

  • McMINNVILLE — Loretta Gloria Gadotti Allen, 86, died of an aneurysm Feb. 27. Her husband and family were with her at her home as she passed peacefully to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ and Mary. There will be a funeral Mass 11 a.m. April 6 at St. James Church, where she was a parishioner. A rosary at 10:30 a.m. will precede the Mass.

    Mary Ellen Schraner, 91, died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loving staff members at the Fountains Assisted Living Apartments on March 11. There will be a rosary and funeral Mass at Christ the King Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20.

    BEAVERTON — Kathryn M. "Kay" Kreutzer, 100, died March 1 from complications of old age and dementia. There was a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia Church. 
  • Eadie Roland, 91, died Feb. 17 in Portland of congestive heart failure. She was a member of Immaculate Heart Parish. There was a funeral Mass at the parish.

    Rosella Allender Lindblad, 93, of Portland, passed away March 5, 2019 following a prolonged illness. There will be a funeral Mass at 1 p.m., Friday, March 15, at St. Thomas More Church in Southwest Portland. A rosary is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. with the funeral to follow.
