On April 9, God peacefully called Mary C. (Cathy) Alexander, 73, home to heaven. She had been holding the hand of her beloved, devoted husband of over 50 years, LJ (Butch) Alexander when she died.

Cathy was born June 27, 1947, in Portland to Joseph and Julia Baker. She was raised in Holy Redeemer Parish in Portland. Cathy graduated from the University of Portland with a degree in nursing. She married Butch Alexander in August 1970. They became parents for the first time in July 1971 with the birth of their son, Chris. Their daughter, Julie, followed in March 1973 and finally their son Jon arrived in June 1981.

She was a devoted wife, caring and loving mother, loyal sister, and dear friend. She was the one you would go to for grounded advice, Godly counsel and a generous serving of common sense. She expected the best and let God do the rest. She was grounded in her Catholic faith. The family takes comfort in knowing that she is on heaven’s Holy ground inhaling deeply God’s best for her.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Butch Alexander, sons Chris and Jon Alexander, daughter Julie Alexander, brother Bill (Barb) Baker, sisters Ann Francis, and Tori (Phil) Lange, father-in-law Richard Alexander, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Julia Baker and brother Jerry Baker.

A rosary and funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 23 at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Southeast Portland.
