John Henry Leahy, Sr., 94, died peacefully Nov 11, his family by his side.A private memorial service will be held Monday, Nov 30, at 9 a.m. All are welcome to view the service at youtube.com/sjbmilwaukie. A celebration of life will be held at a later date due to Covid.

John was the youngest of the three children of Wilhelmina and James P. Leahy. Born and raised in Portland, John was a life-long Catholic. He attended Madeleine Grade School and Grant High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Washington State and an MBA from the University of Portland. He was a veteran of the US Navy.

John met Maryanne, his wife and lifelong partner of 67 years, while attending Washington State. They moved to Portland where they raised their six children. John was involved with the Mortgage Bankers Association, a member of the Kiwanis Club, and was an avid supporter of the Rose Festival. He enjoyed taking his family to the parades every year. The family has fond memories of camping with him and enjoying weekends at his beloved Salishan beach home.

John volunteered at his parish church and St Vincent DePaul. He loved a crossword puzzle and enjoyed the delight displayed on his grandchildren’s faces as the music and dancers chimed each hour on his cuckoo clock.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Rosemary Richard and James Leahy.

He is lovingly remembered by his six children. John, Colleen, Jim, Molly, Denise, and Anita; their spouses and his 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
