Merle Eugene Kirk, 87, passed away March 18. A Funeral Mass and graveside service were held March 26 at St. Paul Catholic Church, where donations can be made in his name.

Merle was born Feb. 6, 1934, to Urban James and Zeta Genevieve Kirk in St. Paul, Oregon.

He graduated from Columbia Prep Catholic School in Portland and served in the Korean War with the United States Army. He later worked with his brother in St. Paul, married Lorene Meyers there Feb. 9, 1957, and raised five children together. He spent 34 years at Willamette Egg Farms, starting as a route driver and retiring as part owner and president. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, hunting, fishing, and jet boating on the Snake River. Merle and Lorene spent their retirement years in Yuma, Arizona, and at their Oregon coast beach cabin.

Merle is survived by his wife of 64 years, daughters Diane and Karen, and sons Phil, Roger and Gene, and their families. He had eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
