REDMOND — Ray Houghton , 74, died Dec. 4 in his home. His death was sudden and unexpected. The funeral Mass took place at St. Thomas Church in Redmond.

Mr. Houghton was born in Eugene Sept. 5, 1945, to Raymond and Vivian Houghton. When he was 5 the family moved to Portland. Mr. Houghton attended Grant High School, then graduated from Oregon State University. After a brief time with Standard Oil, he entered the semiconductor industry and after 40 years in sales and management retired from Philips Electronics. In 2011, he and his wife moved to Redmond.

He married Carolyn Bauer in 1975 and they have two children, Jennifer and Ryan. Mr. Houghton joined the church in 1984 and was passionate about his faith. They attended Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Lake Oswego as well as St. Mary Cathedral in Portland. He was a lector and a eucharistic minister.

He also led the RCIA for 15 years, was active in the prison ministry, the ministry to the sick and homebound, the ministry to the ships and was an active participant on many church boards. Most recently Mr. Houghton and Carolyn were honored to join the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, whose mission is to support and preserve the propagation of faith in the Holy Land and to provide for the needs of the Latin Patriarchy. He was commissioned an acolyte at St. Thomas parish in Redmond and served at daily and Sunday Masses.

Mr. Houghton’s legacy was that of family and faith. He was deeply committed to both. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Jennifer Humphrey; son, Ryan Houghton; and two grandsons, Liam and Collin.

He was laid to rest at Redmond Memorial Cemetery.
