Born in Beaverton July 9, 1939, Kathleen Mae Boyd graduated from St. Cecilia Elementary School (1953) and St. Mary of the Valley Academy (1957). Entering the work force on the cusp of the computer age, Sister Kathleen worked in the data management field at the Portland Police Department, Tektronix, and Portland Data Entry Service Bureau with an expertise augmented through the Tektronix education program.

In 1983, she entered the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon. She professed final vows Aug. 15, 1990, and celebrated her 25th jubilee in July 2008. Her ministry in the SSMO community was focused on business office work, all on the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon campus. From 1985 to her retirement in 2005, Sister Kathleen served in various business office roles. She was the sisters’ health insurance bookkeeper; bookkeeper of the St. Mary of the Valley Music Department; St. Mary of the Valley and Valley Catholic High School bookkeeper; Motherhouse insurance officer; and as telephone operator at the Motherhouse and at Maryville Care Center.

From 1996 to 2000, Sister Kathleen used her extensive data management background to effectively direct the upgrading of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon’s development office data management program. Still, in Sister Kathleen’s memories, she said the “Best Year of My Life” was the year she served in the bakery of the SSMO Motherhouse.
