ALBANY — Over the summer the Albany Knights of Columbus held a golf tournament at Springhill Golf Club in support of Special Olympics, the sporting event for people with disabilities.

On Dec. 4, athletes and Linn County Special Olympics representatives received a check for $1,262 from the Knights’ financial secretary Gary Haworth at our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Albany. The council plans to hold another tournament fundraiser in 2020.

At the presentation, Special Olympics was represented by Ian Copple, Linn County Special Olympics sports manager; Melissa Holcomb, local program coordinator; and Chelsea Holcomb and Paul Copple, who are athletes.

Haworth said there is always a need for volunteers to help with the programs.
