After studying options, Catholic Youth Organization has decided to hold its annual fall fundraising gala online. The event is set for Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Changing plans for the much-anticipated Catholic social bash was difficult, Sister Krista von Borstel told supporters at the end of June.

“Higher forecasted profitability, lower resource allocation for event setup and implementation, alignment with current industry norms and trends, elimination of event risk and the ability to move forward today with concrete planning are key factors driving this decision,” said Sister Krista, a Sister of St. Mary of Oregon.

Lou Holtz, former Notre Dame football coach and now sports commentator, was slated to speak at this year’s Champions of Faith dinner. He has agreed to attend the in-person event in 2022 instead.

“Our need for fundraising support is urgent as we build up our depleted scholarship funds and work to return scholarship funding for our outstanding programs to pre-pandemic levels,” Sister Krista told benefactors.

Meanwhile, after a quiet pandemic year, Camp Howard is in action with happy campers and a new welcome center, which was blessed June 27.
