Tiana Abraham, senior point guard for Central Catholic

Step into the press box at the Central Catholic gym before a varsity girls’ basketball game and ask who usually is the Rams’ best defender. The answer is unanimous: senior point guard Tiana Abraham. That was the case in a 62-37 victory over David Douglas Jan. 22.

“Tiana typically is assigned the defensive responsibility on the opponent’s best guard and last night was no exception,” Central Catholic coach Sandy Dickerson said. “Tiana had multiple deflections and steals especially in the third quarter when the front line of our press took over the game. Tiana’s defensive IQ combined with her communication with her teammates cause havoc for the other team. When she goes we go.”

Alongside her defensive responsibilities, Abraham also directs the team on offense, often scoring but more often creating opportunities for others to score.
