Have a pile of dilapidated printers, cellphones and wires stashed in the garage taking up space? Carve out some time this Sunday and head to The Madeleine Church in Northeast Portland. The parish is hosting an e-waste recycling event April 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Held annually near Earth Day — April 22 this year — the parish-based effort has recycled or repurposed thousands of pounds of materials over the years. Due to the pandemic, the 2021 event will be limited to electronics to reduce the number of volunteers required.

Participants will be asked to unload their own items, and volunteers will direct people to the proper recycling bins. Masks are required.

Electronics accepted include desktop computers, laptops, TVs and monitors, printers/scanners, keyboards/mice, cameras, telephones, electric power tools, cellphones, cords, wires and chargers, computer components, gaming consoles/systems, cable and satellite equipment, stereo/audio components, and miscellaneous electronics.

The following items will not be collected at the event: household batteries, fluorescent lights, ink cartridges, athletic shoes and Styrofoam. The parish hopes to have a recycling event for such items in the fall.

The Madeleine Church is located at 3123 NE 24 Ave. For updates go HERE.
