Fr. Patrick Donoghue, pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Southeast Portland, has a green thumb when it comes to growing gorgeous gourds. He tended to these three pumpkins on the vine as they grew to 53 pounds, 172 pounds and 86 pounds, respectively. The priest suggested with a touch of his well-known levity that the pumpkins — currently resting in front of the church altar — could evoke the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, or Jesus, Mary and Joseph, or faith, hope and charity. The plan is to keep the trio displayed in the church through Thanksgiving.
