The University of Portland is now ranked second out of 127 institutions listed among regional universities in the West, according to U.S. News & World Report magazine. It is the Catholic school’s highest ranking to date. In the 2018 and 2019 it placed sixth in the “Regional Universities – West” category.

Among notable measures in the U.S. News & World Report methodology is the university’s 90% average first-year-to-second-year retention rate for the past several years. In addition, the engineering program was ranked 33rd nationally among engineering schools whose highest degree is a bachelor’s or master’s.
