Holy Cross School in North Portland will celebrate 27 eighth grade graduates Friday, June 11, at 6 p.m. The graduation ceremony will be in the school parking lot.

Teacher. Administrator. Holy Redeemer. All Saints. Holy Cross. After 45 years committed to Catholic education, Kathy Gritizmacher is retiring at the end of this school year.

Gritzmacher joined the Holy Cross teaching staff four years ago and it was a bit of a homecoming, as her parents were raised in the neighborhood and her father attended Holy Cross.

“Ms. Gritzmacher had such a valuable impact on my son as he transitioned into the middle school years,” said Kacy Keippela, Parent Association president and parent of a middle school student. “The focus on learning the executive function skills, as well as how to learn successfully, was so important for him and also for us as parents. Her sense of humor is loved by all; she truly knows how to connect with the students.”

Marielle Louie, a parent of several middle school students, said Gritzmacher took the time to know each of her students. And she “challenges each student to do their best,” said Louie. “Beyond academics, she shows her students that she deeply cares for each of them. She is a model of empathy and compassion as she shares in each of her students’ joys and sorrows in a visible way that encourages her students to do the same for one another.”

Holy Cross “is incredibly blessed to have Ms. Gritzmacher end her teaching career challenging, supporting and loving Holy Cross students,” added school leaders.

Cards/letters to Gritzmacher mail be mailed to Holy Cross School, 5202 N Bowdoin St., Portland, OR 97203, or emailed to msgritzmacher@holycrossk8.org.
