SALEM — An icon at Queen of Peace Parish here, which was commissioned two years ago, was blessed by Archbishop Alexander Sample May 31.

The image, portraying the Last Supper, was created to hang behind the altar on the sanctuary back wall and incorporates the tabernacle. After a year and a half in the works, the image was installed earlier in the month.

“It will serve as a living sign of the Eucharist and hopefully will become an inspiration for prayer and a strengthening of faith for everyone who worships here,” said Father Tim Mockaitis, pastor at Queen of Peace.

“I am very grateful for this unique gift and look forward as the Holy Spirit works through this sacred image,” said the priest, adding that parishioners have been deeply moved by the icon’s beauty.

The image was commissioned by a former member of the parish who gifted it to Queen of Peace.
